How do I Get My iPod Classic songs onto my Laptop?

I had a computer iTunes and an iPod Classic with about 3,500 songs on. To add anything you download to iTunes and then sync with the iPod.
The computer went wrong so I bought a new laptop and transferred the iTunes somehow about 5 years ago.
A year ago some thieving wanker nicked my laptop and I bought a new one with Windows 10 and faster than a speeding bullet etc but iTunes has never re-appeared. I want to add to my library of songs and perhaps delete some but I tried to get iTunes and the greedy b'stards now want €10 a month for it!
Surely there has to be a better way? Can anyone help?

Thanks mate. I have downloaded onto my hard drive and into a new iTunes for free. More importantly it has given me an insight how to operate for future use as I want some of the tracks and albums my wife has downloaded.
Easy now.

They're probably remoaner snowflakes as well. I'd chuck the old iPod away and listen to pointy right metal core on a knock off chinky unit.

Backup your ipod first or synching with a new install of iTunes will delete anything on it unless you have set up your music on your laptop first

I'm pretty sure your can download and use itunes for free without subscribing to apple music.
Worse case scenario is do it for a month, sync music, copy music to an external drive as back up.
